I need to take a break from dairy

Dairy

I need to take a break from dairy products. I got a sore throat last night and now I sound like the chocolate rain guy. Multiple Lattes per day, plus cereal with milk in the morning, plus chocolate based deserts took their toll on my immune system. Probably what happened is that my parasites really like the warm milk from the lattes. This is due to the sugar content in the milk. Also I’ve been eating a bunch of sugary snacks like Double Chocolate Brownies from Starbucks and the Chocolate Overload Cake from Jack in the Box. So in order to counteract the dairy in my system I am drinking hot green tea. And I’m drinking a lot of water also. This should flush out my sore throat. When I get sick, unless my problem is really serious like when I had pancreatitis, I usually get better by eating less food and staying away from strong caffeine and dairy. I think there is something to do with the mucus that builds up as a result of dairy products.

I remember when I was working at a coffee shop in San Francisco. For some reason I got a cold. But I couldn’t take time off work or call in sick, because I couldn’t risk losing my job. So I fought the cold by drinking tons of hot tea. This seemed to flush out the illness. But the hot tea had a temporary soothing effect on my throat that kept the discomfort at bay.

One thing about dairy products is that they are everywhere. It’s in cheese, milk, deserts, lattes, some breads and a plethora of other items. So avoiding dairy can be a challenge.

Sitting in the Park with my Dog

Park with Dog

Sitting in the Park with my Dog

Today I took my dog Harvest to the park. It was a very warm day and it was very sunny. This was around 1PM. But after we walked around for a bit, Harvest wanted to lay down in the middle of the park. She looked comfortable so I decided to sit down next to her. At first I patted her and talked to her for a while. But after a few moments I found something interesting. There were birds chirping and singing around the outskirts of the park, in multiple directions. I listened to the birds, and then realized that Harvest had picked out the perfect spot to listen to this surround sound natural music. It was as if Harvest chose the prime seats in the movie theater to listen to the 7.1 sound effects. So I relaxed and listened to the birds and really enjoyed myself. One thing that I observed is that the birds seem to have a sort of etiquette to their singing. They don’t all just sing at once all the time. They seem to engage in harmonies then pause and let someone else sing. Then they chime in with another line. It was beautiful and I was glad Harvest was able to make me enjoy the music for a while.

I noticed Harvest was not only listening to the birds, but she was smelling the air a lot. So she was having an entertaining audio and scent engaging experience. It is funny watching her nose change directions and wiggle. It must work like some kind of deep space radio antenna, sucking up all the information.

Sitting in the park with my dog made me think about how ancient human beings must have felt about their canine companions. They must have appreciated the dog’s powerful senses for survival as hunter-gatherers. Having a dog must have been the difference between finding food to eat or else having to struggle for food. It is interesting now that dogs are mostly used for friendship and love.

It’s great having a dog who is always around that I can pet and give smooches. Sometimes if I’m bored I’ll just smooch the dog on the face, then get back to writing. I usually do that when I’m raiding the refrigerator for watermelon or pineapple slices.

That reminds me about what happened the other day. You see, I always say hi to Harvest when I see her in the morning. I see her as I’m walking down the stairs and I’ll say, “Hi Harvest!” and wave at her. But she can’t wave back so she just stares at me like I’m weird. But the day before yesterday something amazing happened. I was walking in from the front door, and Harvest was sitting on the landing of the stairs with her paws hanging off the edge. And I said, “Hi Harvest!” and then she looked at me. And then she flipped her right paw up, really quickly at me. It totally looked like she was waving at me. So I kept standing there, stunned. And I said, “Hi Harvest!” and this time I flipped my right hand up in a similar way that she did. To my surprise, Harvest flipped her dog paw up at me again! I was blown away.

Our dog is so smart. When my parents and I talk together in a calm way as a family Harvest senses the energy. She will often grab her rawhide chew and throw it in the air and then catch it. And she’ll run around and sometimes go upside-down. When she goes upside-down her lips pull back from her face, and her ears stick out. At this time, I call her, “Bat Dog.” I think Harvest has a great sense of humor.

Usb Cords Frys Nokia 2600c 2b and Ambulance Guys

Frys Nokia 2600c

Nokia 2600c and Frys

I’m thinking about growing a beard. I want to let my hair grow out too. There isn’t a specific type of style that I’m going for. Just big. The lady who was the receptionist last week said, “You got a lot of hair.” She is so fine. I told her I had a lot more when I was younger. Not sure why I said that. So speaking of things when I was younger. A few years ago I was younger and I had a better ph0ne. But I thought I had traveled back in time so I dropped it intentionally in a government building hoping that someone from the past would find it and there would be subsequent advances in modern technology due to the reverse engineering of the Blackberry. I guess it worked too, because when I asked the guy at the front desk if they had a lost and found. He said that their lost and found, “Did not exist.” Whatever that means. It’s probably in Area 52 by now…part of some giant cybernetic computer’s brain. So yeah, now I’m stuck with a Nokia 2600c-2b phone. It is no way near as cool as my old Blackberry. But it works pretty well. The thing is I misplaced the data cable or USB cord for it so now I can’t take the pictures off my phone.

So I went to the AT&T store and I asked the dude what kind of cord I needed he said that the he didn’t have the cord. Then I asked what kind of cord I needed, this was because he didn’t actually answer my question. He then said that he didn’t know. He then told me to go to Radio Shack. Then I asked him what kind of phone my phone was and he said he didn’t know. He said my phone was discontinued. That was depressing so I decided to leave.

I then went to Device Repair and the owner told me that the kind of cord I needed was a custom USB cord and that I’d have trouble finding it. So took my latte and headed over to Frys because Frys usually has everything.

At Frys there were these, “CARE” ambulance guys there and they were playing the new Playstation 3 camera game thing. This camera tracked the movements of the silly looking wand and made the character on the screen do things. The ambulance guys were pretty good at the game. They stabbed the enemy character repeatedly and even got off some critical hits. The avatar for their character was a guy with a big sword in a cowboy hat. I thought that was very fitting. I tried playing the game but I got owned. It’s so much easier to just use a controller. And I got tired after waving the wand around a lot. I must be getting old because, next-generation gaming things seem really dumb to me. But I was the same person back in the day who thought the “Power Pad” was boring. These complex controllers are just gimmicks to confuse the gamer into thinking  they are having more fun by making them tired. A high quality gaming experience stimulates the mind.

I wonder what those ambulance guys were doing at Frys playing video games?

The Sound of Birds in the Dawn

The Sounds of Birds in the Dawn

Birds in the Dawn

This morning was very spiritual. I went to bed around 2AM and had trouble falling asleep. So instead of trying to force myself to sleep. I just laid there and relaxed. Hours passed by. Time felt very fluid as if it was recoiling back on itself. Thoughts raced through my mind, and after a while they calmed down. Then at around 4 AM, out of the stillness of the dawn, emerged a few sounds of ocean birds in the distance. I removed my eye mask and looked out the window. There was the warmth of light glowing through the darkness. My whole body began to awaken with the day. Then I could hear the distant swells of the ocean. The crashing noise of waves smashing into waves. It was soothing white noise that seemed to meld with the sounds of the occasional car driving by, swirling the air in their wake. The morning made me remember that I am part of the living creature that is our world. I felt rooted and blooming like a dew speckled flower, yearning for the mist.

After a while I was able to fall back to sleep and didn’t wake up again till about 7:15 AM. I took the dog for a walk and felt more awake then I have been in ages. The air felt crisp. The feeling of the leash was firmly in my grasp. It was as if awakening with the sun itself was more energizing than if I was able to sleep for multiple hours. It was an invigoration that stayed with me even to this very moment.

This experience reminds me of when I was about five years old and my family and I were going on a trip to Hawaii. It was very early in the morning in Irvine at the time. And my father and I were outside of the house and he said to me that I should look up at the stars in the sky. He pointed out the North Star to me. It was shining so bright. I can still remember the stillness of the morning. It is amazing how the whole world slows down at that time. You can hear so far into the distance because of the lack of movement in the surroundings. Waves of sound aren’t contradicting each other like they do during busy afternoon hours.

As the day becomes the moonlight,

And the water crashes down,

The dawn will break,

The sky will make,

A castle made of clouds.
