ETCSL

Read Literally Tons of Sumerian Literature for free on the ETCSL

If you click on this link, you will be taken to the Electronic Text Corpus of Sumerian Literature (ETCSL). This website is an amazing free resource where you can read Sumerian translations and transliterations. If you are a fan of Sumerians I really recommend that you visit this site. In case you want to check out their home page where you can search literature by number then click on this link. I was reading some of their proverbs last night and had a blast. Here’s an example of one of their awesome proverbs: “Whatever it is that hurts you, don’t talk to anyone about it.” How rad is that? That’s seriously good advice. Don’t talk about what hurts you. People need to remember that. Too often people give away their weaknesses like an open book and they leave themselves open to manipulation and exploitation. I love the Sumerians and think they are awesome. Big thanks to Oxford for making that website. It is seriously excellent resource. There are enough texts in there to take years to read them all and absorb their wisdom.

Kung Fu Bear

Bear doing Kung-Fu with Bamboo Stick

Have you ever seen a bear do Kung-Fu with a bamboo stick? Well, before I saw this video I haven’t seen any show of dexterity and manual skill of this magnitude by a bear. This bear is from Japan. Let me give a big thanks to The Morning Mash Up for bringing this video to my attention. The Morning Mash Up is a website with funny little articles and it is a variety blog. This bear that is in the video is extremely talented. It looks very curious about the manual manipulation of the staff and it seems to have a great sense of balance. You can watch the bear search for the center of gravity of the staff and it uses its head and feet sometimes to do interesting movements. If you watch the video past 1 minute and 30 seconds the bear really starts to do some cool moves with the staff. I think this shows that bears are very intelligent and talented. I wonder if all bears are this curious about moving objects or if this is peculiar to this bear. It would be pretty cool to have a bear bodyguard who knew how to use a bo staff.
