I had a friendly encounter with a hummingbird while I was reading today. While minding my own business, reading a book, a hummingbird buzzed by my ear. I was startled by the loud sound of the hummingbird and so I looked up. The hummingbird was brown with a black head, and it had a red neck. It was a very beautiful hummingbird and it rested on a small branch across from the table. I looked at the bird and smiled. Then it started to sing. It had a raspy little voice, and it was very loud for how small it was. I imagined that is was saying, “Don’t mind me! I’m just enjoying the day. Go ahead and read your book!” Then when I would get back into my book, the hummingbird would buzz past my ear. The hummingbird was so fast that it got a drink of hummingbird food, then disappeared. And a second later it was back on its branch again.
It was fun watching the hummingbird slurp the sugar-water. It is so amazing how they are able to perfectly hover in order to drink. If you watch the cool hummingbird video below, you can see how the hummingbirds use a strange figure eight movement to their wings. This special way of beating their wings give the birds their special hovering ability. If you want to learn more about how hummingbirds do their magic, then click on THIS LINK.
