The Sound of Birds in the Dawn

The Sounds of Birds in the Dawn

Birds in the Dawn

This morning was very spiritual. I went to bed around 2AM and had trouble falling asleep. So instead of trying to force myself to sleep. I just laid there and relaxed. Hours passed by. Time felt very fluid as if it was recoiling back on itself. Thoughts raced through my mind, and after a while they calmed down. Then at around 4 AM, out of the stillness of the dawn, emerged a few sounds of ocean birds in the distance. I removed my eye mask and looked out the window. There was the warmth of light glowing through the darkness. My whole body began to awaken with the day. Then I could hear the distant swells of the ocean. The crashing noise of waves smashing into waves. It was soothing white noise that seemed to meld with the sounds of the occasional car driving by, swirling the air in their wake. The morning made me remember that I am part of the living creature that is our world. I felt rooted and blooming like a dew speckled flower, yearning for the mist.

After a while I was able to fall back to sleep and didn’t wake up again till about 7:15 AM. I took the dog for a walk and felt more awake then I have been in ages. The air felt crisp. The feeling of the leash was firmly in my grasp. It was as if awakening with the sun itself was more energizing than if I was able to sleep for multiple hours. It was an invigoration that stayed with me even to this very moment.

This experience reminds me of when I was about five years old and my family and I were going on a trip to Hawaii. It was very early in the morning in Irvine at the time. And my father and I were outside of the house and he said to me that I should look up at the stars in the sky. He pointed out the North Star to me. It was shining so bright. I can still remember the stillness of the morning. It is amazing how the whole world slows down at that time. You can hear so far into the distance because of the lack of movement in the surroundings. Waves of sound aren’t contradicting each other like they do during busy afternoon hours.

As the day becomes the moonlight,

And the water crashes down,

The dawn will break,

The sky will make,

A castle made of clouds.

Superstar Spotlight on Bro J Simpson

Bro J. Simpson

watch Bro J. Simpson

This is a Superstar Spotlight on the incredible Bro J. Simpson. Cultural Icon, comedian, professional actor, Facebook Celebrity and hero to the masses are terms that just touch the surface of the sultry epidermis of Bro J. Simpson. Bro J. Simpson is a being that has his own Comedy Videos that you can access via brojsimpson.com, HERE’s a link. On this website you can watch the several hilarious and partially disturbing videos about Bro J. Simpson and friends. The videos are a sort of sketch comedy at an extremely fast pace. Each video is usually under five minutes long. But they pack a tremendous amount of entertainment in each one. Watching a Bro J. Simpson video is kind of like eating Nigiri Sushi at a hole in the wall Sushi Bar, the portions are small, but the flavor is great and you never know what interesting and entertaining characters you might meet while you’re there. I am proud to say that I am an official fan of Bro J. Simpson on Facebook. If you click THIS LINK and become a fan, then you will get off-the-wall Facebook updates of ridiculously funny pictures and video links.

Every day when I check my Facebook account it is always a pleasure to see what hilarity Bro J. Simpson has to offer for my News Feed. I’ve seen some images that make me laugh, others that leave me disturbed, and others that inspire me with awe and the will to make something out of myself. If you are the kind of person who likes to have a good laugh at least once a day, then liking Bro J. Simpson is for you.

As for Bro J. Simpson’s videos, they use advanced technology to oftentimes layer multiple images. This creates an experience that lets the viewer see Bro J. interact or comment on situations that he may not be able to access in three-dimensional-space. This is just one of the many powers Bro J. Simpson possesses. The beginning of each video includes the extremely high-quality and well produced Bro J. Simpson theme song. It gives the listener the feeling that you are about to enter a world of both fun and wonder. The music includes strumming guitars that carry the tune with such precision that they make perfect casual energy and rhythm. This creates the bed for the inspiring vocals that say, “Bro J….Bro J…Simpson…” It is one of the best theme songs I’ve heard for any video series, including television programs.

Bro J. Simpson does an excellent acting job and oftentimes portrays several characters in each sketch. Some of the characters he has done include a convincing Germanic person and his brother, a drunk party-goer who has trouble piloting boats, Bro J. Simpson himself, and a myriad of other entertaining and thought provoking characters.

The other actors that are involved with the Bro J. Simpson Hour are very talented and convincing. One such person repeatedly talked about things that rhymed with “Goats” over and over again. The end result was a semi-musical duet with Bro J. that seethed with enthusiasm and artistic potency. Bro J. Simpson is poetry.

Are some of the concepts and material mentioned in Bro J. Simpson videos and Facebook updates offensive? I would have to say wholeheartedly, “YES.” Bro J. Simpson is not the kind of site you should recommend to an uptight boss, or a parent that is overly sensitive and just got started on Facebook. This is more for people who have a sense of humor and are looking for semi-intelligent jokes and juxtapositions that are more stimulating than pictures that say, “Can I haz a chezburger?” and show a cat. Bro J. Simpson constantly defines himself through pictorial representations and sometimes it can be shocking.

Knowing that Bro J. Simpson is in my life is like having the uncle that I never had, yet always wanted. I know he is always watching over me, and I am not 100% comfortable with that.

The Corona del Mar Starbucks UPGRADED its Bathroom

Starbucks Corona del Mar - Bathroom UPGRADED

Starbucks Corona del Mar - Bathroom UPGRADED

The Starbucks in Corona del Mar UPGRADED its Bathroom! This is awesome news because the Corona del Mar Starbucks had an OK bathroom before but it wasn’t super inviting. But now it has new tile on the walls and it looks like the walls have a sort of line-based texture. It kind of looks like the walls are covered in ivory corduroy. The whole look has been polished and cleaned up. It is a much friendlier looking bathroom now. Before the tile was pretty boring. Now there is a sort of layered look to it. The toilet is the same but it looks nice in its new backdrop. There are still the same amenities that one would expect to see in a Starbucks bathroom, like seat covers, soap dispenser and towel dispenser. The whole feel of the bathroom is, “Fresh.” It seems refreshing and relaxing. Before it had a cold and uninviting look to it. But now the bathroom at the Corona del Mar Starbucks is much better.

A clean and comfortable bathroom is a major plus to any coffee based establishment. I’ve been to coffee shops that don’t have immediate access to bathrooms and I get nervous. Are you sure you want to serve caffeinated beverages and milk products and not offer a bathroom nearby? That’s a recipe for disaster on multiple proportions. A coffee shop is often evaluated for the whole package, not just the coffee. A good coffee shop has great coffee, friendly staff, comfortable seating, clean lobby area, optional snacks and a nice bathroom. Even people that just come in for their coffee to go evaluate the overall niceness of the entire store. But when the bathroom is looking good, it is a sure-fire sign that the coffee shop is being managed well. The Corona del Mar Starbucks always does a great job of keeping their bathroom clean and the baristas are quick to fix it up whenever it is having issues.

The main difference I noted with the Corona del Mar Starbucks bathroom was that the walls were different. That’s what really stuck out at me. Walls are important because they define the space and depth perception on an enclosed environment. For example, a bathroom with large mirrors on all the walls would make the space seem much larger than it really is. This technique is used in the dining area of the Cheesecake Factory in Irvine Spectrum. There is a wall that is almost entirely a mirror, and it makes the space seem huge and almost daunting. When I first walked to our booth, I was thinking, “How are they able to serve so many seats and still provide good service?” Then I realized that there was a huge mirror and the room was half the size that I originally perceived it to be and then I had a chuckle. “Silly me,” I thought, “I got tricked by the interior designer!”

The interesting thing about the walls in the Corona del Mar Starbucks is that they have an interesting texture. That is intriguing to me because things with interesting textures usually make people want to touch them. But I think the last thing anyone should do is touch the walls of a Starbucks bathroom. That is a bad idea. More people traverse those places than a Mos Eisley Space Port on New Year’s.

A funny thing about how the bathroom came to my attention. I didn’t experience it of my own accord. One of the baristas said to me, “Have you checked out our new bathroom?” And I said, “No, is it different?” And he said, “Yeah, you should go check it out!” And I paused for a second. This is because my self-preservation instincts usually make me second guess any suggestions or invitations to public restrooms for any reason. But I trusted the Barista who told me about the upgraded bathroom. And I am glad I checked it out because people should know about how nice the tile was in there!

Sitting in Silence contrasting with usual interaction

Filed under: Observations — Tyler @ 11:48 pm

Sitting in Silence can contrast with everyday usual interactions. After sitting in silence for about 3 hours or more, going back to walking around and interacting with people in the world just isn’t the same. My experience with this happened today when I was reading and working in my journal for about three hours this afternoon. I was deeply immersed in what I was doing and even though I was surrounded by people in the Starbucks in Orange, I didn’t talk to any of them and remained still and silent. It wasn’t deep meditation that one would attain in private by focusing on nothing. It was more of a heightened state of focus and relaxation that had some similarities with my experience watering the plants. And when I walked around outside and acknowledged people passing by on the street, life felt totally different and fresh. It was as if refraining from interaction and basic forms of social stimulation charged a reservoir inside me. Then when I was finally re-released into the world, it felt more real and tangible. I cared more about my surroundings and felt more rooted in them. It was the complete opposite of the fuzzy feeling one undergoes when they first wake up. It was an alertness and comprehension of the self and the outside of self. Yet at the same time there was a greater sense of oneness with my surroundings and the people there than I’ve felt in a long time.

One thing that was interesting about the whole experience was that it affected by depth perception. I was able to notice the great beauty in looking far into the patterns of the vanishing point of a sidewalk. I simply noticed the repeating trees and the lines getting smaller and smaller. People walking to a fro, into my perception and then out of it. There was a serenity and tranquility that felt alien and new.

As I sit here going back to those moments in my mind, I try to remember what I did to get to that state of awareness. The main thing that comes to mind was the feeling of doing something like reading and maximizing the learning and pleasure I gained from it. And when the reading started to get overwhelming and began to feel tedious, I immediately switched gears into journaling. The end result was perfect. I expressed myself without loosing any energy. It was as if I was tired of walking and so I jumped on a bicycle. They both are a form of work, and yet the change from one to the other was energizing. And then when I got tired of journaling I stopped and just sat in stillness and silence. That was the catalyst that brought my outside of my regular ego environment. Time lost its meaning and I was floating along in a stream of possibilities. Every thought was a thought that I actually wanted to experience. I wasn’t focused on desires. Then I drank some of my iced tea and began reading again. This time with renewed vigor. And I started the whole process over again.

Controlling one’s own mind is key. But sometimes the best way to learn control of the mind, is to allow the mind to drift and pull in different directions and then analyze where the mind went, and why. Then after time, one can discern patterns in how his or her own mind works. Do I get sidetracked by certain types of thoughts all the time? Do I loose my concentration often when a certain thing happens? In my experience, I have found that I definitely fall into patterns of behavior. It is almost uncanny how I create situations that I know will distract me from what I really want to be doing, and then I engage in those distractions anyway. It is a form of back sliding that needs to be confronted every day in order to make actual progress into sharpening the mind. Because all our minds really are, is a tool designed to help us navigate through existence.
