Green Goodness from Bolthouse Farms uses Juice FROM CONCENTRATE

Bolthouse Farms - Green Goodness

Bolthouse Farms - Green Goodness

Finding a good juice to drink isn’t easy. There are so many choices out there that claim to healthy but not all of them taste very good. But yesterday I had the pleasure of drinking the very flavorful “Green Goodness” Fruit Smoothie from Green Goodness. It tastes great and I drank it back to back with “Green Machine” by Naked Juice in order to compare the flavor and nutrients used. What I found was that both drinks tasted great and had good nutritional value. But “Green Goodness” by Bolthouse Farms uses Juice FROM CONCENTRATE. I found this out by checking the ingredients label. This is probably why “Green Goodness” doesn’t taste quite as good as “Green Machine” by Naked Juice. From what I can tell from the label, “Green Machine” doesn’t use juice from concentrate. This is a bummer for Bolthouse Farms because it seems that “Green Goodness” juice has a lot more vitamins than “Green Machine.” For example, “Green Goodness” has 150% daily Manganese levels, and 120% daily Zinc levels. That is a lot more vitamins than what’s in the Naked Juice “Green Machine.” In that one the highest levels you see for daily vitamins is Vitamin C which has a daily value of 40%.

So there is a tradeoff, Naked Juice’s Green Machine tastes better and uses non-CONCENTRATE juices. But the Bolthouse Farms Green Goodness has slightly better vitamin content. Everything became clear to me when I read that the juice was from concentrate. I was like, “Oh, that’s why it tastes like that.” It just doesn’t have the same kind of punch as the “Green Machine” by Naked Juice.

Yet Green Goodness is a delicious juice. I would drink it almost everyday it is so good. I just think it would taste even better if they didn’t use juice from Concentrate. That isn’t good for making top-notch flavor.

Jerusalem Artichokes

Jerusalem Artichokes

One thing to note is that when I bought my two juices from Bristol Farms in Corona del Mar, the Bolthouse Farms “Green Goodness” was 50 cents cheaper than the “Green Machine” by Naked Juice. So maybe by using juice from concentrate, they are able to cut down on the overall price of their product. I guess you got to do whatever you have to do, in order to stay competitive. But you would think that if Bolthouse Farms was able to spend the extra money to have Jerusalem Artichokes in their smoothie, then they could drop the extra bucks to use juice that wasn’t from concentrate. Speaking of Jerusalem Artichokes, those things look nothing like a traditional artichoke. They look more like long ginger roots, with sunflowers. I really want to try one on its own someday and see what they taste like.

Overall I really like the Green Goodness from Bolthouse Farms and it is a good change-up from the Green Machine by Naked Juice. If I ever get tired of the flavor of one of them I can always switch to the other.

Wave Farms provide possible abundant source of sustainable energy

Wave Farm

Wave Farm - Ocean Energy

Wave farms are large sea-borne machines used to harness energy from the sea. Big thanks goes out to Mike P. for sharing the link on wave farms. You can check out the cool movie explaining wave farms by clicking on the picture to the left. Wave Farms are an interesting form of energy generation because there is almost a limitless amount of energy created by the oceans. The movement of the waves and the resulting changes in pressure causes there to be a directional shift in the movement of water. So if one was to have a large tube in the water equipped with a turbine based energy generator, one could harness a great deal of energy. The amount of energy that is available for extraction is dependent on the amount of turbines and tubes, size is also a factor. Wikipedia says that there is an estimated one Terrawatt (TW) to ten TW of available energy. But one thing that concerns me about accessing wave current energy on such a massive scale would be one questions: If we drained too much energy from the ocean, couldn’t we possibly disrupt wave patterns and possibly create weather issues? The articles I read never really touched on that issue. The only reason why, might be because we wouldn’t need nearly that much energy.

Another issue that I was wondering about regarding wave farms would be: How do you get the energy from the turbines to the cities? Would they use some long waterproof energy cord? I’m not 100% sure how that would work.

Although Wave Farms make more sense to be used in the oceans surrounding islands and peninsulas. Large countries with ocean access could use Wave Farms as part of a larger sustainable energy program. For example: If the United States used Wave Farms in conjunction with Solar Power, Wind Power and Geothermal Power, we could have a large portion of our energy needs met.

Another factor that hasn’t been discussed about wave farms is that, where there is water and energy, communities can exist. So it is possible for in the future for entire submerged communities living below the sea to utilize Wave Farms for their energy needs. Wave Power can be used for other things than just electricity generation. You can use Wave Power to power a Desalinization Plant. This would be an important part of having an underwater town or city.

Wave Farms use supposedly simple turbine systems to generate electricity. This is a good thing, because a complicated metal system with many moving parts would probably be more susceptible to rust, corrosion, and maintenance issues.

There would also need to be safety measures for fish, so that they don’t get caught in the turbines. But from what I watched in the video the turbines seem very harmless. It’s not like they are some kind of dangerous fan looking turbine. They look more like a series of revolving doors attacked to a central area.

Overall Wave Farms seem to be a technology that needs to be explored because it is one of the few methods of generating energy from ocean movement. If we take the time to harness ocean energy we may learn better methods to acquire energy from more traditional methods along the way.

FNOOB Internet Radio bumps crankin Trance and Techo

FNOOB

listen to FNOOB now

FNOOB Internet Radio delivers excellent free streaming music. The TRANCE station is crankin’ good, and once I listened to a few tracks from the current set, I knew I had to share it with everybody. The TECHNO station is top tier as well. Of course, it is much more aggressive than the TRANCE station. The Underground station is really good too, it has a cool shout out box where you can speak your mind in a chat box. The Underground station is cool because it has a more live-DJ feel to it. The TRANCE and TECHNO stations are more like long sets. The audio quality for the Internet Radio on FNOOB is stupendous. I’ve never listened to an internet radio station that is so clear and HI-FI with such a solid and reliable connection. This is especially sweet because my internet connection lately has been pretty unreliable. So I was surprised to hear FNOOB sound so consistent and lag-FREE. The navigation for the website is super simple and I was instantly able to listen to the stations I wanted to. Other internet radio stations have a lot to learn from the simplicity and ease of use of FNOOB.com.

The quality of the actual songs are ridiculously good. I haven’t heard a bad song yet. Especially the TRANCE station bumps hard, it has the perfect blend of instrumental trance and vocal trance. It is easy to tell that a tremendous amount of care has gone into the design of the set lists. Another encouraging thing about FNOOB is that they say that they play music from both new and already established artists. I’ve listened to a lot of trance in my life, and this stuff sounds fresh. It is such a pleasure to listen to new trance that doesn’t require a download. Streaming music really is the future and FNOOB is setting itself to be riding on top as the tides change.

Whoa! I just registered with FNOOB and joined their community section under the username: overidon. Now I am able to download their sets. This is super cool and reminds me of the system Crystal Clouds set up. I am currently download Step by Step Vol. 1 by Christian Ludy. I can’t wait to listen to this and hear what it’s like. I have no idea who this guy is. The cool part is that the download was free. So that is always a plus. The song I’m listening to right now on FNOOB is getting stereo-psychedelic and there is even some classical guitar jumping in the mix. This is some funky trance and I’m feeling it for sure. Guitar solo…that’s sick!

Oh man this is awesome. The download I just got of Step by Step Vol. 1 is 320 Constant Bitrate. That is top tier bitrate for MP3 format for an internet radio station. I am stoked about that. It’s not VBR, so I really appreciate that. Oh so it sounds like this Step by Step Vol. 1 is a dubstep set. Very nice.

OK, I am very satisfied with FNOOB and I will definitely bookmark this puppy and crank the music.

Lawrence A Sherwin MD did a great job removing my Cysts

Filed under: Reviews — Tyler @ 6:15 pm

Dermatology

Lawrence A. Sherwin M.D.

1441 Avocado Avenue, Suite 707

Newport Beach, CA 92660

Cysts are unfortunate pieces of skin and watery flesh that grow under the skin. They can be very unsightly and annoying for the person who has them. Some cysts can grow into larger problems and can cause more serious skin issues. I had two cysts on my body. One medium sized cyst was on my neck. And another smaller cyst was on my back. I kept a close eye on them over the past couple months and I decided that I needed to get them looked at by a professional dermatologist that I trusted. Well, I already knew Lawrence A. Sherwin MD because I used his services before when I needed some discolored skin removed from my chest. It was skin that was looking kind of weird and it  got me concerned. Dr. Sherwin used a device to freeze the skin and it fell off a day or so later. Also I already knew Dr. Sherwin because he was my neighbor.

So I made an appointment with his Dermatology office where he works with several other professionals in the field. And I had Dr. Sherwin take a look at my cysts. He then confirmed that they were in fact cysts and not some other kind of skin problem. And he told me that he would be able to remove them if that was what I so desired. I definitely wanted the cysts out of my body because they were starting to annoy me and I found myself touching them every once in a while. And I’ve found that when you touch a problem, it just gets bigger. So I scheduled a follow up appointment to have the cysts removed.

Today I saw Dr. Sherwin and he did a great job removing my cysts. First thing that happened was that the receptionist/nurse put me in the room and asked me a few questions. Then she confirmed the locations of the cysts. I was trying to stay calm but deep down I didn’t like the idea of having a cyst in my neck. The one in my back I wasn’t so worried about. But the neck is a very vital area and to have something growing there worried me. But then when Dr. Sherwin came into the room he put me at ease with his pleasant sense of humor and comfortable bedside manner. It felt good that I already knew him and trusted him from before.

Then Dr. Sherwin talked to me for a few minutes and then injected me with the pain-numbing medicine. He was really a pro with the needles and they didn’t hurt much at all. And he injected me several times to make sure I was numb. Then after a few minutes he began the cyst removal process. He started with the smaller cyst on my back. I barely felt his incisions at all. He was fast and accurate and removed the cyst. The only part I felt was when he put the stitches in me. That felt like an odd tugging sensation. Very little pain at all.

The next thing that happened was that Dr. Sherwin moved on to the cyst in my neck. He tested to see if I was still numb to the pain, and I did feel a little pain. So then he injected my neck with more painkiller medicine. After that I was good to go and he began his diligent work. The neck cyst took a longer time to remove. I could feel the tugging of him working at it. And even though I was numb, I could sense that a part of me was being removed. I felt a trickle of blood glide down my neck and it was surreal. It reminded me of the chicken dinner I cut up with my knife the night before. I slowly breathed and tried to relax. Dr. Sherwin asked me how I was doing to make sure I was OK. I told him I was fine and he removed the cyst and began stitching me up. I could feel the tugging on the stitches on the neck area more, probably because it is a more sensitive area than the back. But then after a few minutes he was finally finished.

Dr. Sherwin then bandaged me up and talked to me about how I needed to come back in about 10 days to have my stitches removed. After that I asked him if I could see the removed cysts. He showed them to me and they looked pretty small. It is amazing how much trouble a couple small pieces of flesh can be. I wanted to see them because I am working on a Horror/Science Fiction/Action story about cysts. I’d go into more detail about it but I want it to be a surprise! After I was satisfied with me examination of my tiny culprits, I talked to Dr. Sherwin a bit more and then he told me to make a follow up appointment.

Later today I saw Dr. Sherwin around town and he asked how I was doing. I told him that I felt good and how much I appreciated his work.

Since I’ve only used Dr. Sherwin’s services specifically for cyst removal and skin removal, I can only say from personal experience that he does a great job in those areas. So if you need some other dermatology service other than those then I can’t really comment. But what I can tell you is that Dr. Larry A. Sherwin has a great attitude and is very friendly and comforting. And I am sure those qualities will carry over for whatever task that he does.

Overall, this cyst removal was a good experience. I feel like I got something done to myself that was important. And I will write a follow up article on how the stitches removal goes.
