Cysts are unfortunate pieces of skin and watery flesh that grow under the skin. They can be very unsightly and annoying for the person who has them. Some cysts can grow into larger problems and can cause more serious skin issues. I had two cysts on my body. One medium sized cyst was on my neck. And another smaller cyst was on my back. I kept a close eye on them over the past couple months and I decided that I needed to get them looked at by a professional dermatologist that I trusted. Well, I already knew Lawrence A. Sherwin MD because I used his services before when I needed some discolored skin removed from my chest. It was skin that was looking kind of weird and it  got me concerned. Dr. Sherwin used a device to freeze the skin and it fell off a day or so later. Also I already knew Dr. Sherwin because he was my neighbor.

So I made an appointment with his Dermatology office where he works with several other professionals in the field. And I had Dr. Sherwin take a look at my cysts. He then confirmed that they were in fact cysts and not some other kind of skin problem. And he told me that he would be able to remove them if that was what I so desired. I definitely wanted the cysts out of my body because they were starting to annoy me and I found myself touching them every once in a while. And I’ve found that when you touch a problem, it just gets bigger. So I scheduled a follow up appointment to have the cysts removed.

Today I saw Dr. Sherwin and he did a great job removing my cysts. First thing that happened was that the receptionist/nurse put me in the room and asked me a few questions. Then she confirmed the locations of the cysts. I was trying to stay calm but deep down I didn’t like the idea of having a cyst in my neck. The one in my back I wasn’t so worried about. But the neck is a very vital area and to have something growing there worried me. But then when Dr. Sherwin came into the room he put me at ease with his pleasant sense of humor and comfortable bedside manner. It felt good that I already knew him and trusted him from before.

Then Dr. Sherwin talked to me for a few minutes and then injected me with the pain-numbing medicine. He was really a pro with the needles and they didn’t hurt much at all. And he injected me several times to make sure I was numb. Then after a few minutes he began the cyst removal process. He started with the smaller cyst on my back. I barely felt his incisions at all. He was fast and accurate and removed the cyst. The only part I felt was when he put the stitches in me. That felt like an odd tugging sensation. Very little pain at all.

The next thing that happened was that Dr. Sherwin moved on to the cyst in my neck. He tested to see if I was still numb to the pain, and I did feel a little pain. So then he injected my neck with more painkiller medicine. After that I was good to go and he began his diligent work. The neck cyst took a longer time to remove. I could feel the tugging of him working at it. And even though I was numb, I could sense that a part of me was being removed. I felt a trickle of blood glide down my neck and it was surreal. It reminded me of the chicken dinner I cut up with my knife the night before. I slowly breathed and tried to relax. Dr. Sherwin asked me how I was doing to make sure I was OK. I told him I was fine and he removed the cyst and began stitching me up. I could feel the tugging on the stitches on the neck area more, probably because it is a more sensitive area than the back. But then after a few minutes he was finally finished.

Dr. Sherwin then bandaged me up and talked to me about how I needed to come back in about 10 days to have my stitches removed. After that I asked him if I could see the removed cysts. He showed them to me and they looked pretty small. It is amazing how much trouble a couple small pieces of flesh can be. I wanted to see them because I am working on a Horror/Science Fiction/Action story about cysts. I’d go into more detail about it but I want it to be a surprise! After I was satisfied with me examination of my tiny culprits, I talked to Dr. Sherwin a bit more and then he told me to make a follow up appointment.

Later today I saw Dr. Sherwin around town and he asked how I was doing. I told him that I felt good and how much I appreciated his work.

Since I’ve only used Dr. Sherwin’s services specifically for cyst removal and skin removal, I can only say from personal experience that he does a great job in those areas. So if you need some other dermatology service other than those then I can’t really comment. But what I can tell you is that Dr. Larry A. Sherwin has a great attitude and is very friendly and comforting. And I am sure those qualities will carry over for whatever task that he does.

Overall, this cyst removal was a good experience. I feel like I got something done to myself that was important. And I will write a follow up article on how the stitches removal goes.
