Terra - Chapter One

A girl approaches a man looking at the sea, sitting on the sand on a beach, “Hi.”
The man answers, “Hello.”
The girls replies, “Are you lonely tonight?”
The man a little surprised by the straight question, “I guess.”
She was eager to answer, “I am Lisa.”

She was cute very cute, so young, and energetic, naive… but not too much…

He shakes her hand, “I am Chris.”
Lisa said, “Why are you here alone?”
Chris with a calm look responded, “Well, it was a tough day I need to relax myself.”
Lisa was shaking, “Do you mind if I stay?”
Chris nodded, “No, you can stay.”
Lisa was looking at the sea with her clear blue eyes lost in the edge of the horizon, “What were you doing before this?”
Chris said, “It doesn’t matter anymore.”. His dark brown eyes gazed the stars.

We were both looking at the sea while seated on the sand, it was almost night with a very cloudy sky.
She was trying to be strong but I could notice how sad and scared she was.
She hugged herself pretending she was cold but I knew she was afraid, she kept talking to me.

Lisa said, “I was on middle school, I was the classic girl hiding behind the court, you know where the P.E. class?”
Chris said, “Oh yeah, been there.”
Lisa said, “I was always looking at everyone, they were so… stupid. That’s why I was always reading a book or something instead of doing what everyone else was doing. I used to write for the school paper, nothing fancy… just the regular.”

Another spaceship arrived at the beach carrying more refugees, most of them completely scared like they used to come. I could see how she was feeling goosebumps by looking at it.

Chris worried about Lisa, “Are you ok?”
Lisa pretending to be strong, “Yeah… yeah I am fine, is just I am not really sure how to feel right now… I mean what just happened to our world? Where are we? What are we going to do? I am sorry I didn’t mean to bother you… I am just sorry…”

Tears began to fall from her eyes as she was talking and looking at me.

Lisa continued “I mean why?… why?… I don’t understand… I saw you in here so calm, I wanted to come here maybe I would calm myself. But it is not going to happen, hehe, I am so stupid, and I am so scared…”
Chris said, “Why are you scared?”
Lisa said with confusion in her face, “Because I don’t know what is going to happen, nor what just happened. In fact, why are you so calm? How can you be like that?”
Chris said trying to calm her, “There is no reason to be scared just because you don’t know what is going to happen. Think of this as an opportunity, to start something new… although we don’t know what will be. Try to be excited instead of scared.”
Lisa bowed down her face,  “I don’t know how to do that…”
Chris paid close attention to her, “Try smiling, can you do that for me?”
Lisa replied with a short but sincere smile, “Yes I guess.”

She had a beautiful smile, so full of innocence but somehow serious.

Chris said smiling too, “That’s better. Don’t think about the past too much… try to focus and relax because it seems like something big may be coming up.”

She stopped crying and she just stared at the sea for some minutes until a different spaceship arrived to the beach. All the people gathered to the center, there were thousands of people and a weird looking being went down from the ship and said:

“Greetings humans, we know you are scared and confused, but we mean you no harm. We want to help you as we are your brothers and sisters in the universe. Your home planet was invaded by the Catarax race, a brutal and violent race that wishes to conquer the entire universe. Your governments tried to fight them off, but your technology was not enough to defeat them. That’s why in the heat of the battle we decided to take some of you off the planet into this other planet. You have been chosen to continue with the human legacy. My race as protector of the living in the universe, cannot allow that your race disappear. I am sorry to inform you that you won’t be able to return to your planet any time soon, as the remaining humans will be hunted down by the Catarax in there, and then the planet will be formally claimed as one more of their dominion. Now do not be afraid because you will be safe in this far planet, we will give you tools, and education so you can rebuild again. You will rebuild your society again, but this time a most peaceful, advanced and better society. We will help you. You have awakened to the threats of the universe so you must learn how to defend yourselves. But today you will rest, tomorrow we will begin with the preparation for your new settlement. We will open that building so you can enter and get some rest, in there are beds, bathrooms, water and food for you, please try to rest.”

After that the being left in his spaceship, most of the people got inside of the building. I stayed outside, she decided to stay with me a while also. Just like that it was a new world, a brave new world… I just heard some news of the Catarax arriving on the planet and attacking the major cities on TV, and suddenly I was in a different planet. Life can change so fast.

I need to take a break from dairy

Dairy

I need to take a break from dairy products. I got a sore throat last night and now I sound like the chocolate rain guy. Multiple Lattes per day, plus cereal with milk in the morning, plus chocolate based deserts took their toll on my immune system. Probably what happened is that my parasites really like the warm milk from the lattes. This is due to the sugar content in the milk. Also I’ve been eating a bunch of sugary snacks like Double Chocolate Brownies from Starbucks and the Chocolate Overload Cake from Jack in the Box. So in order to counteract the dairy in my system I am drinking hot green tea. And I’m drinking a lot of water also. This should flush out my sore throat. When I get sick, unless my problem is really serious like when I had pancreatitis, I usually get better by eating less food and staying away from strong caffeine and dairy. I think there is something to do with the mucus that builds up as a result of dairy products.

I remember when I was working at a coffee shop in San Francisco. For some reason I got a cold. But I couldn’t take time off work or call in sick, because I couldn’t risk losing my job. So I fought the cold by drinking tons of hot tea. This seemed to flush out the illness. But the hot tea had a temporary soothing effect on my throat that kept the discomfort at bay.

One thing about dairy products is that they are everywhere. It’s in cheese, milk, deserts, lattes, some breads and a plethora of other items. So avoiding dairy can be a challenge.

Sitting in the Park with my Dog

Park with Dog

Sitting in the Park with my Dog

Today I took my dog Harvest to the park. It was a very warm day and it was very sunny. This was around 1PM. But after we walked around for a bit, Harvest wanted to lay down in the middle of the park. She looked comfortable so I decided to sit down next to her. At first I patted her and talked to her for a while. But after a few moments I found something interesting. There were birds chirping and singing around the outskirts of the park, in multiple directions. I listened to the birds, and then realized that Harvest had picked out the perfect spot to listen to this surround sound natural music. It was as if Harvest chose the prime seats in the movie theater to listen to the 7.1 sound effects. So I relaxed and listened to the birds and really enjoyed myself. One thing that I observed is that the birds seem to have a sort of etiquette to their singing. They don’t all just sing at once all the time. They seem to engage in harmonies then pause and let someone else sing. Then they chime in with another line. It was beautiful and I was glad Harvest was able to make me enjoy the music for a while.

I noticed Harvest was not only listening to the birds, but she was smelling the air a lot. So she was having an entertaining audio and scent engaging experience. It is funny watching her nose change directions and wiggle. It must work like some kind of deep space radio antenna, sucking up all the information.

Sitting in the park with my dog made me think about how ancient human beings must have felt about their canine companions. They must have appreciated the dog’s powerful senses for survival as hunter-gatherers. Having a dog must have been the difference between finding food to eat or else having to struggle for food. It is interesting now that dogs are mostly used for friendship and love.

It’s great having a dog who is always around that I can pet and give smooches. Sometimes if I’m bored I’ll just smooch the dog on the face, then get back to writing. I usually do that when I’m raiding the refrigerator for watermelon or pineapple slices.

That reminds me about what happened the other day. You see, I always say hi to Harvest when I see her in the morning. I see her as I’m walking down the stairs and I’ll say, “Hi Harvest!” and wave at her. But she can’t wave back so she just stares at me like I’m weird. But the day before yesterday something amazing happened. I was walking in from the front door, and Harvest was sitting on the landing of the stairs with her paws hanging off the edge. And I said, “Hi Harvest!” and then she looked at me. And then she flipped her right paw up, really quickly at me. It totally looked like she was waving at me. So I kept standing there, stunned. And I said, “Hi Harvest!” and this time I flipped my right hand up in a similar way that she did. To my surprise, Harvest flipped her dog paw up at me again! I was blown away.

Our dog is so smart. When my parents and I talk together in a calm way as a family Harvest senses the energy. She will often grab her rawhide chew and throw it in the air and then catch it. And she’ll run around and sometimes go upside-down. When she goes upside-down her lips pull back from her face, and her ears stick out. At this time, I call her, “Bat Dog.” I think Harvest has a great sense of humor.

Hachi will steal your heart

Hachi

Hachi

Richard Gere does a phenomenal job in the touching film, Hachi: A Dog’s Tale. He plays the part of a Professor of music in an east coast University. The story is about a dog named, “Hachi” who is from Japan. He ends up getting lost in the East Coast, USA. And Richard Gere’s character, “Parker” finds him and takes care of him. It seems like any old, man loves dog story but there is an important twist. Hachi loves Parker so much that he goes to great lengths to wait for him as he returns from the train station. Hachi waits at the station every day for over a year and Parker and Hachi have a great life together. But when Parker unexpectedly dies while teaching a music class, he never comes home through the train station. But Hachi faithfully waits for Parker every day for 10 years. His love for Parker never waivers and he waits for him for the rest of his life. Hachi becomes so well known to the community that they even write about him in the newspaper. The local merchants take care of him as best as they can, but Hachi lives alone somewhere in the city. Even though Hachi gets to be very old, he still waits for Parker at the train station.

This movie is actually based on a true story. Hachi was a dog in Japan with a similar situation. And the people of the town loved Hachi so much that they created a bronze statue of him in his honor.

The reason why I say that Hachi will steal your heart is because I watched this movie and I cried. It isn’t about the dog being adorable and it isn’t about the great music. It is about the sheer tremendous amount of love and devotion that is presented in the film. Richard Gere is very convincing in his love for the dog and the dog actor that plays Hachi is unforgettable. It is heart wrenching to see Hachi when he is older. That really twisted my emotions and made me cry a lot. If you love animals at all you need to see this movie. And especially if you have ever owned a dog then this is a must-see.

It was never released in the USA in the theaters but it was released in the theaters in Japan. Almost all the reviews I’ve read for Hachi: A Dog’s Tale are extremely positive or else maximum highest rating. I’ve read at least 20 reviews of people saying they cried watching this movie. This includes men and women.

A great thing about this movie is that it is only about 95 minutes long. So they present the subject matter of the movie extremely efficiently and artistically without turning it into a long epic.
