Wonderful Critter Day

Golden Ladybug

Golden Ladybug landed on me today

I had a wonderful critter day. It all started when I had to brush my dog’s teeth. Even though her teeth are slimy and she kept licking the poultry flavored toothpaste…it was fun. Dogs are so cute normally. But when you pull their lips up and they show their fangs, they look kind of like monsters. I think a dog’s fur is what makes it look friendly. If dogs didn’t have fur they’d look more like HELL HOUNDS! So I cleaned her teeth as well as I could, then I applied the anti-plaque material on her teeth. Then I remembered that I needed to go to the dentist myself. So I had a pretty good visit. I noticed that one of my upper teeth was showing some wear and I was concerned but the dentist said that it wasn’t anything to worry about so he told me to come back in May of next year. Then on the drive home something AMAZING happened! A golden ladybug flew into my window and landed on my right arm! At first I thought it was a bee and I shook my arm to get it off me. But the ladybug hung on my arm and then I got a good look at it. It was beautiful and golden. And I felt very special and lucky. The golden ladybug crawled around my arm for the entire ride home.

There is something special and great about critters like ladybugs. They seem to be very curious and they don’t bite which is nice. I wonder what they eat…I just read that they eat aphids among other things. So it looks like they are good to have around, especially in the garden. Some people even think that if a lady bug lands on you, you may get money. That’s a bonus.

And if you think that the ladybug was the end of my critter day, there’s more! I was walking to Starbucks, because I wanted a latte and I wanted to tell the baristas about the golden ladybug…and I saw a GREEN BEETLE! Whoa! Talk about a lot of critters in one day. The beetle was hanging out on the side of the road. And it seemed like one of its legs was broken, or stiff. I checked to see if the beetle wanted to be moved out of the street and onto the grass but it got annoyed when I touched it. So I decided to leave it alone. I hope it doesn’t get run over by a car.

In Santa Ana I’ve seen metallic green beetles, but this one in Corona del Mar was just solid green.
