Invisibility and Energy Frequency and Wavelength

Light Wavelength

Light Wavelength

Wavelength means the distance between two successive peaks of a wave. People can only see electromagnetic energy that has a wavelength of 390 – 750 nm. But what we see is not all that is actually there. In fact there are many different things happening in my kitchen that I can’t actually see. There are waves of energy that are invisible because they are outside what the human eye can process. So basically everything that we can think of in our universe vibrates in some way. And we can only see things that vibrate in a very specific way. But what if we were able to change how a person or vehicle vibrated? Wouldn’t that make the vehicle invisible? This makes me think about a computer screen. If we see a red dog on the screen, that means we are seeing reflected light that has a wavelength of about 700nm. But what about the computer screen itself? What if we could change the way the particles in the screen vibrated. I think this happens all the time with heat. When we warm up a glass of water that means the water particles are moving faster than they did before. But I’m talking about making something invisible. So heat doesn’t really help in that department.

Ok, so I did some checking and it looks like all matter in the universe is simply energy that is vibrating slow enough for us to observe or interact with it. This makes sense and actually pulls me back to thinking about heat. This is because when you look at the four phases of matter we have solid matter or liquid matter which is usually the densest. Then if you heat that up you get gas. And if you heat gas up enough you get plasma. But maybe if you heat something up so it is so hot, it can become something like a Gamma Ray. So if you heated something up that it becomes a bunch of Gamma Rays then it will probably become invisible. The only problem is that if you turn something into Gamma Radiation it will also be probably destroyed. Maybe there is some kind of way to turn something from matter into energy and back again into matter. The only way I can think of to do this would be by having some kind of magnetic recombination device that detects the orientation and construction of all the particles and energy in something, and then after taking it apart, it puts everything back together again. I’m not exactly sure how any device like that would work tho.

Another way that something could become invisible would be if it warped the way light was reflected around an object.

Retaking Hadaloo and Veldar the Illusionist

Veldar the Illusionist

Veldar the Illusionist's Stats

During my adventures in Master of Magic, the Klackon village of Hadaloo revolted! I was really upset because Hadaloo was originally an outpost that I founded with extra care, hoping that it would grow and prosper. But for some reasons the citizens of Hadaloo decided to rebel and they even convinced the Stag Beetle that was on patrol to join in their revolt. The village of Hadaloo was very far away from Tygo city so sending an attack force had to be carefully planned. I decided to send a huge invasion force of six, highly trained stag beetles to retake Hadaloo. But by the time my army got to the perimeter of Hadaloo, the rebels had already recruited four units of Klackon Halberdiers. With the aid of my wizard’s magic, his name is Sackloth, I was able to destroy the rebel units, and kill the traitor Stag Beetle.  The citizens must have been unhappy to be under the rule of Sackloth again and forced to give their excess food and money to my government, but I negotiated with them and decided to lower taxes to a low rate of only one gold per 1,000 citizens. As a result of our newfound understanding, the people of Hadaloo decided to militarize and eventually build a Fighter’s and Armorer’s Guild along with a new stables. This enabled Hadaloo to raise and train Stag Beetle units of their own to aid in the fight against the enemy wizards.

Near the capital of Tygo, our scouts detected a huge tower. After leading a large expeditionary force into the tower, Chogles the Dwarf battled with dangerous enemies. They were successful and we found out that the tower lead to another plane of existence called Myrror. This new realm was very different from what we knew back on Arcanus, and the mountains and grasslands were dark and dangerous. Chogles eventually lead his force of stag beetles onward to attack a Draconian hamlet and small Dark Elf town. The natives fought hard against Chogles, but they were no real match for the fire breathing stag beetles. Chogles then guarded the towns against invasion by raiders.

Years later a powerful young Illusionist named Veldar approached Sackloth, looking for work. He wanted 500 gold pieces up front and 10 gold pieces per day for his services. I was weary about hiring the Illusionist, he seemed like he knew how to use magic well, but he was poor in hand to hand combat. But after talking with the young man and going over his abilities, I found out that he was adept in Arcane Power as well as being a Prayermaster. These abilities showed signs of great potential as a warrior. What I didn’t realize at first, was that as an Illusionist, his magical ranged attack was considered an illusion, so his attacks could bypass the armor of any unit. I witnessed this first hand when Veldar attacked a shaman unit. They got annihilated in a single hit. And his attack looked impressive, it was a glowing white ball of energy with blue colors emanating from it. The sound it made as it whirred through the air inflicted fear as well as awe in his enemies.

I decided that Veldar needed to train before sending him into further combat, so I let him station at Tygo for several months. There he slowly gained experience and I was able to craft him some special items. I gave him a wand of stoning that increased his damage, and had a chance to instantly turn any enemy into stone. This wand also had improved chances to hit the target. And I made him the Amulet of Naxos which was a very special creation that added four points of increased power to his ranged and hand to hand attacks as well as giving Veldar the abilities of Water Walking and most importantly Regeneration. With Regeneration, Veldar was able to heal during combat, but if he died while fighting and his allies were victorious with combat. Then Veldar would come back to life with full vitality and fervor for life. With these items in his possession, I felt that Veldar was ready to lead a force of his own into Myrror and search for treasure and go on adventures.

Myrror was a very dangerous place and Veldar fought against dangerous enemies. On one occasion Veldar brought Sackloth great fame by single handedly wiping out an entire army of Ghouls and Zombies with his magical attacks. His Stag Beetle companions barely had to do any fighting at all. But on one occasion Veldar tried to conquer a tightly defended Night Elf town. He had the help of a noble hero, Lord Kumdar. And Lord Kumdar was physically strong, yet he was inexperienced and he got ripped to shreds by the spells of the Dark Elf swordsmen and halberdiers. Veldar was killed as well, but fortunately the valiant Stag Beetle units fought onward and were able to kill the Dark Elves. After the battle one Stag Beetle started to cry when he saw Veldar’s broken and torn body. But then the Amulet of Naxos glowed with bright light and made Veldar’s remains levitate. A vortex of energy was visible pulling energy from the stars and spiraling it down into Veldar’s body. Suddenly Veldar’s limbs pulled together and recombined and repaired. And the stag beetles bowed their heads at Veldar’s regeneration. He said to his Stag Beetle warriors, “Friends, your honor and tenacity in battle has brought us victory and has given me the chance to regain my life. I am forever in your debt. And let it be known, that never again shall we attack a dangerous town like this again, unless we have proper reinforcements. From now on, I shall ask our wizard, Sackloth, to cast the spell of regeneration upon you during battle, if you ever become weak from injury. Now, let us oversee the reconstruction of these towns so that they prosper and bring great energy and production for our Government!”

Unfortunately, Sackloth didn’t cast regeneration upon Lord Kumdar, so he was very dead.

Understanding Desalination

Russian Desalination Plant

Russian Desalination Plant

Have you ever heard the term “Desalination” before? This is becoming a hot topic (pun intended) for populations and their growing drinking water needs. In a nutshell, Desalination means taking the salt and unwanted minerals and materials out of either sea water or other water. This process requires heavy machinery and infrastructure as well as a great deal of energy. But making drinkable or “potable” water is extremely important because many rivers and wells for getting fresh water have either been exhausted or have become polluted. Desalination is a also a way for countries that have access to ocean water but are basically deserts to get drinking water. There are several methods for desalination but the basic process is that water is heated up and the steam is collected. The collected steam condenses and then becomes drinking water. The primary way that desalination occurs today is a method called Multi-Stage Flash Distillation CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE. Desalination is often combined with power generation. This means that the excess energy produced by a power plant would be used to give energy to a nearby desalination plant. This process is called Cogeneration.

Desalination is a technology that needs to be worked on and advanced if we are going to satisfy growing water consumption needs in California and Worldwide. I predict that water usage and disputes over water rights will become a major point of contention in regions like eastern Asia and Asia Minor. Wars in the near future probably won’t be fought over oil or land rights, but rather for water. Desalination technology could be used to diffuse tensions and quench the thirst of growing countries, like China. The reason why more focus needs to be put on desalination is because the main byproduct of desalination, SALT, is extremely toxic if not dealt with properly. Changing the salt content of regions of the ocean can cause fish to die. So more effort needs to be put into perfecting desalination technology if we want it to be a solution for our water needs.

Desalination technology can be extremely profitable. Right now California is working on a large desalination plant near San Diego. The drinkable water produced by this plant will be able to be sold to other communities. Since water resources are going to become more scarce as populations grow, especially in California, then it would make sense that the price of water will rise. So investing in desalination plants may be a good idea. I definitely would rather live in a community that was able to generate its water supply, rather than relying on some other community for my water.

Overidon Laptop is Up and Running Again

Filed under: Overidon News — Tyler @ 10:50 pm

Fortunately, the Overidon Laptop is up and running again! Big thanks to Device Repair for replacing the hard drive and installing Windows 7. They did a great job. Now I am running Windows 7 and it is quite faster than Windows Vista on this computer. One thing that I noticed is that Windows 7 uses these interesting transparent windows. When I click on the Start Button it looks pretty similar to Vista except that the right hand side of the window is translucent and I can see the window behind it. It is a really nice perk because you always have an idea of what you’re looking at. Also when I hover the icons on the taskbar, I can see small previews of the programs that are running. So when I hover over the Mozilla Firefox icon, I can see this post that I’m writing right now, and also my Facebook page. And I can easily select which window I want to view. Minimizing and maximizing and restoring windows is much easier now. By simply dragging the top of a window to the top of the screen, Windows automatically thinks that I want to maximize. It’s pretty amazing and very intuitive.

In order to get the wireless working again since I forgot my wireless password, I had to hard-reset my router. The router came with this graphically intense software for the Linksys. I remember when we first set it up, it took literally over an hour to install and configure the software, maybe even two hours. But this time I didn’t even have to install the software from the CD in order to get it to work. The router came with built in, web based software that I was able to access by being plugged into the thing and entering 192.168.1.1 into my browser. It didn’t take long at all to get back online. And this time I made sure to keep the wireless password information in a place where I remember.

It’s going to take a while to install all the software that I had originally on this laptop. But at least now I have a 500 gig hard drive to store data. Before I only had a 150 gig hard drive and that was barely enough. I’m not exactly sure how my old hard drive got bad sectors. But I am going to make sure to back up my data often in order to avoid problems.
