Repo Men and the US National Debt

Repo Men

Repo Men

SPOILER WARNING: Repo Men has an Interesting Message. The movie is about a company called, “The Union” that builds artificial organs that are mechanical in the future that are uber expensive. People need the organs or else they die, but they usually can’t afford them so they take out massive loans to pay them off. The Union then sends “Repo Men” like Jude Law’s character (Remy) to remove the organs and take them back to the Union if you can’t pay for the loan after 3 months. What happens in the movie is that Jude Law’s character gets betrayed by his partner and he needs to get an artificial heart. He then can’t pay for his artificial or “artiforg” heart and then his partner has to repo Remy’s heart. Remy then goes on the run.

The entire movie deals with one central issue that is very interesting and applicable to modern American Society, and that issue is debt. Without a doubt Americans are facing debt issues that seem so big they might as well be as bad as having a fake heart. First of all we have the National Debt, which is about 12.6 Trillion dollars right now. This National Debt represents how much we owe the FED. This debt is spiraling out of control. I was reading this one document written by the Zeitgeist people that says something along the lines that if the National Debt continues to rise at the rate it’s going. Taxes will need to increase to 65% by the year 2013. 65% is a huge number. Imagine seeing 65% of your paycheck go to taxes. You would be left with 35% of your original paycheck in order to pay for housing, food, clothing and other life needs. The movie Repo Men shows us that debt that piles up can quickly get large and it happens without us really noticing it. Remy said that the three month grace period on his heart went by very quickly and he was running out of options. The artiforgs in Repo Men represent how we can’t go bankrupt on our national debt. The national debt is not like credit card debt where you can go BK if you get over your head. If the United States of America can’t service it’s debt then other countries will view our currency as valueless. This would cause an instability in the trade system of the world. This is because the USA is such a large consumer of world goods. The USA can’t simply say it has too much debt to the FED and that it wants to go bankrupt. That would probably make our currency worth less than the peso. This is very similar to the artiforgs in Repo Men because if you can’t pay for your organs you can’t simply go bankrupt and keep the organs, the Repo Men take then back and then you probably either die or suffer immensely. Who is going to come for the USA when we can no longer pay for the interest on our ridiculous national debt? Hopefully they don’t repossess our  banking system, or the FED decides to pawn our Navy for payment of the debt. There are a lot of things that could happen, and none of them seem good.

J-Campos T-Shirt Concept

We are currently working on a new T-Shirt design for Jonathan Campos. It is of Jonathan Rocking out on his guitar. As you can see there is a split screen look to it. That represents the duality and awesomeness of music and being a hero. Also you can see from the picture that Jonathan is wearing a bandanna. That sends symbolic imagery of power and omnipresence. This T-Shirt concept was worked on by Jason Stringer who is a rocking musician. Lettering and T-Shirt implementation by Tyler. Please feel free to leave feedback on what you think of the T-Shirt concept, because we want to make it as awesome as possible.

I’m Finally Feeling Better!

pancreas

I had pancreatitis

I’m Finally Feeling Better! I was in the hospital for 6 days. Can you believe that? I was in there for pancreatitis. It’s a painful inflammation of the pancreas. What happened is that my pancreas was creating too much lipase. That’s an enzyme that breaks down fat molecules. When I was in the hospital the doctors made it so I wasn’t allowed to eat or drink for 5 days. They had me on an intravenous solution of basically salt water. Did I get hungry? Yes, but my stomach hurt so bad I knew I didn’t want to eat. So when the pain got intense I pushed the call button to get pain meds. They gave me this drug called Dilaudid. The painkiller did the job and it was injected into my IV. The first time I got the drug I was like, feeling pretty good. It felt cold going into my veins and it worked very fast. I was wondering why the nurse asked me if I had ever taken Dilaudid. And the reason why I think she asked was because I got sent on a 1 way trip to the baloney land of Purple Town.  No Joke. Dilaudid is serious stuff. I was in incredible pain and after being pumped full of Dilaudid I was chilling. The part that was lame was that after taking the pain medicine subsequent times, the effect wasn’t as strong. But the Dilaudid still did its job.

When I got to the hospital I hadn’t had a bowel movement for about 2 and a half weeks. So they gave me enemas and laxatives. Those kind of worked but not really. Then on day 4 they gave me this drink called Go Lightly. This drink tasted like liquid wax and I had to drink tons of it. It came in a 1 gallon container and they wanted me to drink all of it. I drank like 5 cups and then puked, then the nurse came in and told me that I needed to keep drinking and that I should have saved my puke so they could measure it. Then I drank more and puked again. But since I hadn’t eaten anything for 4 days I just basically barfed up the liquid and water. It was foamy puke. Then I drank a little more and puked again and then that’s when I threw in the towel and said that I wasn’t going to drink anymore. The nurse then said, “Well, the doctor said you can just sip it until midnight.” And I was like, “Ok, I’ll do that.” But I had no intention of drinking any more of that stuff. Then a few hours later I started to have a bowel movement and it was a watery explosion. That was the case for the rest of the night and in the morning. Then in the morning I got a colonoscopy, which is basically where the doctor sticks you with an anal probe camera and examines your insides. I was put under some sleeping medication when they did it and I remember being in a different place when I woke up. It was kind of disorienting. Then they showed me pictures of my insides and it looked like some kind of alien horror movie set.

But now I’m out of the hospital and I am finally able to eat food and drink beverages. I’m not allowed to eat pizza which is pretty harsh. But at least I’m not in uncontrollable pain.
