It was Wednesday, September 2nd. I was on my way to meet Jonathan Campos at the Grove in Anaheim to see the band Ween play. I had a Starbucks Caramel Macchiato in my hand and was excited to listen to Ween and hang with Jonathan Campos. If you’ve never heard of Jonathan Campos here’s a link to his Official Fanpage on MySpace. And if you’re new to Ween’s music like I was then take this link to visit Ween on MySpace.

I saw Jonathan Campos and Daniel Campos waiting outside the Grove venue in Anaheim. They both looked like they were ready to rock. We caught up and talked about what’s been happening while Jonathan Campos pounded his Booze Infused Soda Pop.
It was great to see Jonathan Campos and Daniel Campos. Daniel was wearing a rad Star Wars shirt and he was complimented as we entered the venue. At first it didn’t look like many people were coming to the show. We met up with Jonathan’s friend Dustin who was super cool and then got in the front. Ween started to play pretty close to 8 o’clock. I was excited because I expected an opening act or two but instead Ween Played the full 3 hours, only to take a break at about 10:30PM and coming back a bit later for an encore performance.

What was remarkable about Ween’s music is that each song was played with superb skill. I especially noticed how the band’s music was tight. The songs were generally short, about 3-5 minutes each. But some of the songs were played out into jams. The style of music that Ween plays is very vast. They played everything from Country to Rock and a bit of Reggae and in between. I loved the music. This was a great deal of fun for me because I love music in general but I sometimes get bored at concerts, where I don’t know all the music. But for Ween I would consider myself a total newbie to their tunes, but I had a great time and didn’t get bored at all. This was due in part to how they employed excellent showmanship. Ween had very short gaps of time in between each song and they kept the momentum full steam. Ween played this one song called, “Your Party” and it was excellent.

The girls at the Ween show were cute and they were dressed like they were going to a casual party. There were girls that were really short and they complained of not being able to see, and they said, “I wish I was taller.” And I thought that was pretty funny. One of them rubbed up next to me while the show was going on and it made Ween even more enjoyable. Another girl who was as tall as I am gave me and Daniel Campos some gum so she was cool. It was Trident. Overall I had a great time at the Ween show and I think I would go see them again. Oddly enough there was a mosh pit during the performance, even tho the music was very tame. Dustin commented that Orange County crowds often use any band as an excuse to get rowdy. One thing that was odd was that Ween smoked a lot of cigarettes during their performance. Jonathan Campos at one point said something like, These guys smoke a lot huh? And I agreed.
