So I was sitting at cha For Tea sipping on some King’s Oolong Hot Tea, when I decided to browse my MySpace account for some music. I ended up picking a band called ME ICON.

ME ICON is a duo that makes electronically produced music. They are from London and one track that got my attention was called, “The Sun Never Shines in London.” This song is really compelling, because it grabs the listener subtly. “The Sun Never Shines in London” opens by enticing your ears with soft sounds of city streets, cars vrooming by, and footsteps. Then the song has some drums matched by synths on the crescendo. The drums then break into a driving beat. This gives the song a marching feel, like you are walking somewhere to the rhythm.

Next the vocals kick in. The vocals in “The Sun Never Shines in London” are very mellow and easy to listen to. They use a cool effect that makes each word sound distant yet easy to absorb. Not all the words in the song can be picked out, but the vibe is clear enough to enjoy.  At 1:59 there is a chord change that takes the song into a major sounding progression. This part sounds beautiful and the vocals really shine along with the music. The song has a very memory inducing feel that makes one feel nostalgic of the past and hopeful toward the future. This reminiscence is drawn out of the listener by the chill stereo effects and melancholy strings.
