Chromeo is a very, very tight band from Montreal and New York. They hail primarily from Canada. Their music is great to groove and dance to. I’ve been listening to the song “Fancy Footwork” off their MySpace page over and over again till my ears got sweaty. Then I wiped off my ears and put my headphones back on and listened to “Bonafied Lovin.” There are some key reasons why I thoroughly enjoy listening to Chromeo.
Chromeo uses excellent production and classy programming to create their music. The production value really shines through in every song, but in the tracks, “Fancy Footwork” and “Bonafied Lovin” the level of production is unrivaled by even the superb tracks of the 80’s. Fancy Footwork starts with a sizzling and spooky Michael Jackson’s Thriller type synth sound and then a siren wails and pulls you into the punchy song. The song kicks out dance rhythms with a distorted synth and pushes the low registering bass along the fast paced track. The male vocals are easy to listen to and aren’t very sexual and that’s a big plus because a great deal of good grooved dance tracks have overtly sexual lyrics and that just gets old. In fact, the lyrics in Fancy Footwork are quite pleasant, “Bright lights TV screens, Feels like looking in a magazine…” That’s some nice imagery. It gives you the impression of a glamorous situation which is fun. The music video for this song is great. Check out Fancy Footwork by visiting YouTube by clicking here.
Bonafied Lovin starts with a great guitar lick and sweet vocals. I especially like the pulsing drums. The song is great and it has a cool keyboard interlude in between verse 1 and 2. The music video for Bonafied Lovin is on the left hand side of Chromeo’s MySpace page. It’s the third one down from the top in the video section.
If you’re on the computer right now, you should take a second to check out Fancy Footwork and Bonafied Lovin on Chromeo’s MySpace page. And if you like the music you should take this link to their homepage where you can buy Chromeo CD’s and Vinyl Records and even T-Shirts and other merchandise.
PS: You should also watch the video for Yo Gabba Joint. It’s at the top of thier “Sounds like” section on thier MySpace page. The song is about washing your hands. Nice and Cleannnnnn. Its very clever! The vocals are trippy.
