Blogging is a lot of fun. But nothing makes the typing go by faster than having good music pumping in through your ears. I’ve been a fan of an artist/DJ called 4TrakZ for over a year now. I loved his music ever since I heard Escape. That song has a uniqueness that takes you back to the 80’s with it distorted vocals and grinding guitar stabs. But for some reason or another I didn’t check my MySpace account and I missed out on 4TrakZ for a while. 4TrakZ is from France and his music is truly international. Most of the songs have English vocals but have a slap bass feel that you can only find among the best French artists like Danger. His music is well categorized as electro/experimental and pop. This makes sense because you can hear the programming come trough. The pop side of the music is apparent by 4TrakZ’s distinct use of structure to push a song into your head. His best tracks are equipped with breakdowns and bridges made of synthesized plastic. (The kind of stuff you might find on 4TrakZ’s armor)

When I checked to see what 4TrakZ was up to last week on MySpace I was blown away. Not only does he have a new EP coming out the 13th of August 2009 but he has tons of new remixes on his MySpace. One such mix is the Bestrack Sunset City MegaMix. This MegaMix seriously is melting my brain. I have listened to it over 70 times on headphones. It is literally addictive music. The mix opens up with some low moody bass and ambient sounds of train tracks only to be accompanied by hand drums. Then the vocals kick in and keep the upbeat track in position until it splits into a small buildup at 1 minute 46 seconds. At this point your ears are jazzed up with precise stereo tiny lines of synth patterns. The polyphony is beautiful and it brings the listener inside the pocket quite nicely. The patterns have a vocal “talking” feel that makes you want to listen closely to the rhythm because it has something to say subconsciously.

At 2 minutes and 32 seconds there is a rad breakdown as the female vocalist sets a countdown timer that goes up to nine then hits zero and the BesTrack bomb gets dropped. Bass lines of slap goodness enter from the left channel and lay down the beat. Then the song hits a real intense finale at about 4 minutes. An underwater sounding lead takes your ears on an adventure through a wall of sound.

If you haven’t already, you need to visit 4TrakZ on MySpace right now and listen to Espace and the Bestrack Sunset City MegaMix!  Don’t forget to visit Bestrack on MySpace as well, the music there is sick!
