Relaxatron 5000 - Click to listen

There are many websites that have interesting soundscapes for people to listen to. But a website titled,  “Nature Sounds for Me” has a tool where you can create your own custom nature sounds. One is able to mix four different nature sounds. Once you pick the sounds, you can adjust volume, panning and also the frequency interval for the sounds to play (timing). I created my own nature soundscape called the, RELAXATRON 5000. It has a mix of a snowstorm, a mellow beach, a thunderstorm and an intermittent creek. It is quite soothing and I hope you are able to use it for relaxation and enjoyment. The cool thing is that if you have the latest version of Flash Player, you can actually download the relaxation sounds yourself and convert them into mp3 if you like and put it on an iPod or other MP3 player. It is very easy to make your own relaxing mixes, and there are several different sounds to choose from, including rain, birds, grasshoppers and even whales.

EQ Preset for Psy Trance: CLICK TO ENLARGE

Psy-Trance is sometimes difficult to listen to on headphones. This is because of the frequencies and how most mid-quality headphones work. What happens is that Psy-Trance music has a lot happening both when it comes to stereo effects and especially with the mid frequencies. The kick drum is usually a sound that is more prominent in the middle frequencies as opposed to hip-hop kick drums that are usually sub woofer rumbling. But if someone is on headphones, the headphones tend to put extra emphasis on the mid and high frequencies. Only extremely high-quality headphones play bass notes properly, and these types of headphones can be extremely expensive. Part of the reason for this is because Psy-Trance is designed to be listened to loud and on monitors or loud speakers, for lots of people to enjoy. The DJ has a lot of sonic information to work with and can control the equalizer with skill to get the effects he or she wants. But many of us live in confined spaces so we use headphones. Fortunately, there is a simple fix for this problem.

If you use the audio library and music player program called, “MediaMonkey” you can click on a button with a couple knobby looking things. That’s the Equalizer button. If you click on it you will see an equalizer, and if you aren’t familiar with what a graphical equalizer is, here’s a quick crash course. A graphic Equalizer or EQ is a bunch of knobs that let you control how your music sounds. The ones on the left are for bass and low notes, and the ones on the right are for treble and high notes. But the middle range is what we want to focus on for fixing this Psy Trance problem.

If you look at the above picture on the left you will see a good preset pattern for the EQ that will make headphone Psy-Trance much easier to listen to and will probably cause less headaches. The shape of the EQ knob positions is similar to a ‘valley.’ The knobs dip in a gradual pattern toward the middle frequencies. By doing this, the music will be not as loud, so you will probably want to turn your overall volume or else the “preamp” knob up a little bit.

By doing this, the kick drum will have a more bass-sound and the overall sound of the music will be less ear-pounding. I really like this style of EQ because headphones are a great way to listen to all the stereo magic that happens during Psy-Trance.

If you use other programs like Winamp there is an EQ that you can manipulate in a similar way.

But if you use MediaMonkey, then you can use this simple Equlizer Preset that I made. If you unzip the file and put it in a directory that you remember, then you can click on the “load preset” button in Media Monkey and then navigate to the folder with the file. Once you load up the file it should automatically adjust your EQ. Just remember to change your EQ when you listen to a different genre of music.

FNOOB Internet Radio delivers excellent free streaming music. The TRANCE station is crankin’ good, and once I listened to a few tracks from the current set, I knew I had to share it with everybody. The TECHNO station is top tier as well. Of course, it is much more aggressive than the TRANCE station. The Underground station is really good too, it has a cool shout out box where you can speak your mind in a chat box. The Underground station is cool because it has a more live-DJ feel to it. The TRANCE and TECHNO stations are more like long sets. The audio quality for the Internet Radio on FNOOB is stupendous. I’ve never listened to an internet radio station that is so clear and HI-FI with such a solid and reliable connection. This is especially sweet because my internet connection lately has been pretty unreliable. So I was surprised to hear FNOOB sound so consistent and lag-FREE. The navigation for the website is super simple and I was instantly able to listen to the stations I wanted to. Other internet radio stations have a lot to learn from the simplicity and ease of use of FNOOB.com.

The quality of the actual songs are ridiculously good. I haven’t heard a bad song yet. Especially the TRANCE station bumps hard, it has the perfect blend of instrumental trance and vocal trance. It is easy to tell that a tremendous amount of care has gone into the design of the set lists. Another encouraging thing about FNOOB is that they say that they play music from both new and already established artists. I’ve listened to a lot of trance in my life, and this stuff sounds fresh. It is such a pleasure to listen to new trance that doesn’t require a download. Streaming music really is the future and FNOOB is setting itself to be riding on top as the tides change.

Whoa! I just registered with FNOOB and joined their community section under the username: overidon. Now I am able to download their sets. This is super cool and reminds me of the system Crystal Clouds set up. I am currently download Step by Step Vol. 1 by Christian Ludy. I can’t wait to listen to this and hear what it’s like. I have no idea who this guy is. The cool part is that the download was free. So that is always a plus. The song I’m listening to right now on FNOOB is getting stereo-psychedelic and there is even some classical guitar jumping in the mix. This is some funky trance and I’m feeling it for sure. Guitar solo…that’s sick!

Oh man this is awesome. The download I just got of Step by Step Vol. 1 is 320 Constant Bitrate. That is top tier bitrate for MP3 format for an internet radio station. I am stoked about that. It’s not VBR, so I really appreciate that. Oh so it sounds like this Step by Step Vol. 1 is a dubstep set. Very nice.

OK, I am very satisfied with FNOOB and I will definitely bookmark this puppy and crank the music.

There was a part where the drums were hitting this rhythm that was a little uncomfortable, but then when it released I was taken into this swelling and mind dunking, aura twisting audio journey. I using some pretty good Sennheiser headphones to listen to the music. They cover the whole ear and I like that style more than earbuds. And since there is a great deal of depth to the music I recommend listening to Portals with higher quality headphones. But really you need to just straight up listen to it. The cool thing is that you can actually download Portals for free via Soundcloud by clicking HERE and choosing the download button near the “share” button.

Is Portals aggressive in parts? Yes. But the aggressiveness comes through with the persistence of the communication. The vocals used near the end are very inviting and sense-stimulating. I am so glad I listened to this. It will definitely take a special place in my music collection. The cool thing about Portals is that it is music that pulls you out of the normal routine. When I started to listen to it I took a break from what I was doing and got completely sucked in. This isn’t dance music or punk rock. This is something different. I think trying to pigeon-hole Portals into a specific genre might be doing it a disservice.

What happens at the six minute mark is so unique that it reminds me of communication with an entity that is outside the regular realm of consciousness. I’ve never heard anything like it.

Matthew Sforcina's "Meme" is zen-state stimulating music (FREE DOWNLOAD)

I’ve been listening to Matthew Sforcina’s musical exploits for the past few months on and off and generally have been mildly amused and slightly impressed by his work. But earlier this week I had the real pleasure of listening to Sforcina’s latest not-for-profit album called, “yod kaf meme.” You can download “yod kaf meme” for free by clicking HERE. The first two songs, are clever but the real gem of the album is “meme.” This song incorporates experimental, ambient and eerie elements to create a piece of music that is definitely worth celebrating. When I first listened to the beginning of “meme” I was instantly drawn into a Zen state of relaxation. The ambient rain-forest sounds set my mind at ease. There are sounds of birds and either rainfall or a distant waterfall. It is very soothing and listening to it on headphones was like being wrapped in a blanket of contentment. I love how the song stays with this feeling and state for a substantial length of time. It shows that Sforcina truly understands that sublimation of distraction and standard emotional states takes more than just a 15 second hook.

The transition between the rain-forest intro to the first verse melds into place with a violin and piano. They remind me of a meditation bowl, being hit at the perfect time to send the mind deeper and deeper. Then the drums kick in a mechanical and deliberate fashion. It is jarring yet appreciated because you are prepared for it. When Sforcina sings he does so with spoken word accuracy and rhythm, while retaining an unending melody. His words hit hard and the music is both disturbing and serene.

Meme is a great piece of music because it can be listened to over and over again due to its stages and uniqueness. But most of all the place it brings the listener to is so special that it borders on the sacred. Sforcina’s music is usually very intimate. But this time he outdid himself by a long-shot. Meme is both recognition of oneness as well as the entrance to a parallel consciousness. I’d be lying if I said I’ll ever be the same again.

This is the first new song by The Grey Mage since the year 2000. The Grey Mage is a Rapper/Singer/Songwriter originally conceived in 1998 by Tyler Stansfield Jaggers. In 1999 The Grey Mage collaborated with The Poetic Prophet and created several songs. In 2000 The Grey Mage released a Techno/Ambient album called TrancenDANCE. It was a limited release album and all the copies were signed.

Now in 2010 The Grey Mage is Hip Hop / Healing music. The song, “Time in Horizon” is the first of many Hip Hop / Healing adventures.

Download Silver Haze by Darius for free by clicking the picture

Listening to mind-blowing music is one of the best things that any person can do with their time. So if you are going to listen to music, you might as well listen to the best. And “Silver Haze” by Darius is definitely one of the best. Click here to download the song for free. Darius is a supremely talented and powerful musician who shares that energy with his music. Silver Haze opens with psychedelic guitar sounds that make you feel like you are warping into the song from another dimension. Then the drums kick in and calibrate your mind to accept the music in all its splendor. When the main guitar riff begins, along with beautifully timed guitar feedback, you will thank yourself for downloading the song. Silver Haze has a unique feel that nods to 1970′s rock while utilizing current Hi-Fi production techniques. The overall sound has a very full feel, and seriously deserves to be turned up. The music sounds great on headphones, but I really recommend you listen to it loud in the car, or on high quality studio monitors, or a home stereo system.

Darius uses a bass line that sounds noble and honorable. It elevates you. This kind of music does more than just makes you feel good, it takes you somewhere. When I listen to the bass guitar I can easily hear the soulfulness and heroic wisdom of the music’s creator. It is something to be cherished. And the best part is that Silver Haze is a substantial song that is 6 minutes and 5 seconds long. It is nourishing and enlightening.

The vocals in Silver Haze rock and there are vocal effects during in the chorus and other areas. Darius doesn’t hold back and it makes the song rule. The vocals make you appreciate the music and totally set you up for the ultimate guitar solo. But the guitar solo isn’t just a solo because there are multiple guitar lines harmonizing with themselves. So it is more like a guitar victory. I’d be really surprised if this song isn’t taught in music school in the future.

Another great thing about Silver Haze, is that it is exciting the whole way through. The intensity stays throughout the piece and you will not even notice the six minutes go by. One way that Darius achieves this is by having a varied and clean sound. Even though there is a lot going on during each measure, you can hear everything clearly and enjoy it. It is truly music craftsmanship created with the passion of a poet and the precision of an ancient focused mind.

Blip.fm may make your facebook explode

Yeah, so I think I exploded my Facebook today. I was experimenting with this new program/website called blip.fm What you can do with it is become your own DJ and play music from different sources like YouTube and other places. It is pretty cool because there are lots of songs to choose from. And some of the music is more rare. Unfortunately some of the songs are fake. So when you DJ you need to be mindful of your music and prune the ads from the actual songs. But once you get it up and running Blip.fm is pretty rad. I am playing some Earth Nation right now. The song is called Transfiguration. So tight. OK so you’re probably wondering how this program blew up my Facebook. Well, there is an option in Blip.fm to sync with your Facebook. And I thought, “I have a Facebook profile. So why don’t I just link ‘em up?” YEAH, I guess I didn’t realize how excited I got about blipping new songs on my Blip.fm account because I must have blipped like over 20 songs and then my Facebook application blew up and froze on me. It said try Facebook later. I was like, “For REEL?”  >:(   That was 100% No Good.

UPDATE: Now my Facebook is back up and I changed the settings so I don’t post blips anymore to my page. I think this is better. If you are just going to blip every once in a while, then turning this option on is cool. But if you are a serious blipper like me then you should probably turn this setting OFF for GOOD.

Not many places on the internet are brimming with free downloadable DJ Live Sets of delectable Trance Music. So when I stumbled up CrystalClouds.com. I was really pleased to find myself drenched in excellent music. Crystalclouds.com is a great site because it is fast and it has tons of great features. First of all there is a great download area where you can download Full DJ Live-Sets of Trance Music. The music is organized by DJ and then separated by Project. So for example, I downloaded a Trance Set by Jon O’Bir, called Ways and Means 038. For you to get this DJ Live-Set you will first have to register for the site. If you haven’t registered for CrystalClouds yet you can take this link to become part of the website. After you register with CrystalClouds.com you will be able to participate in their forums, download mp3 live-sets and do other stuff. So now that you’re registered and logged in you can navigate to the download section. The download section is accessible by navigating to the Menu section on the left hand side of the screen. It’s depicted by a globe with a plug in it. And there is a flashing “NEW” sign next to the downloads section. Click here and you will be taken to the DJ list at the download page. To find the Live Set I’m listening to, navigate to Jon O’Bir on the middle right hand side of the page. The list is in alphabetical order by the first letter of the DJ name. So Jon O’Bir is right in between Hytex and Kenji Sekiguchi. Notice that you have two choices for things to click on. There is Jon O’Bir and there is also a sub-heading, “Ways and Means.” Jon O’Bir is the DJ name and there are downloads associated to that DJ. But the subheading “Ways and Means” is project that Jon O’Bir is working on. Both, DJ names and sub-headings have great tracks. I recommend that you listen and explore DJ names and their sub-headings to find tracks that you enjoy. After clicking on Ways and Means you’ll be taken to a list of his sets. All you need to do is navigate to “Ways and Means 038” by scrolling down the page and you’ll be able to click on the “Download now” link next to the date of the DJ Live Set.

Now that you know how to download Live Sets from CrystalClouds.com you should experiment and download a few. Remember to leave feedback at the forum on mixes that you download. This is a good way for other people to know quickly whether or not a mix is good or not. When you leave feedback you can rate the Live Set. Sometimes I just go through a set list and download ones with high rating. As a rule of thumb the ones with the higher number of ratings with the rating closest to 5.0 are the best. Other cool aspects to the forum are that you can see the tracklists for different Live Sets and read what people are saying. I need to start posting more. My problem is that I’ll download a Live Set and listen to it over and over again, because I like specific builds and swells. But I should really download more sets and leave more feedback in the forums. Maybe if I participated in the forums more I would have made more Crystal Clouds friends.
